Reading notes: Alice in Wonderland part b

  •  there was a table in front of the house with the hatter and the hare, and the dormouse was resting on a cushion
  • all 3 were at one end of the table so alice sat down at the other end
  • alice started arguing with the hare and the hatter about various things
  • she told the hatter it was weird that his watch didn't say the time, and he said it was because it stays the same time for so long
  • alice could not figure out the riddle that the hare asked her so she told him to do something better with his time
  • he said that time would do anything with the clock if they asked, like freeze or speed up time
  • time had to stop changing the clock because the queen ordered his execution
  • they grew tired of talking about the time so they had the dormouse tell them a story
  • alice kept interrupting the dormouse's story
  • they were being rude so she left and came across a tree with a door
  • it brought her back to the original room and she unlocked the door and went into the garden
  • in the garden there were 3 gardeners painting the roses red and arguing
  • she asked why they were painting them when the queen came in
  • the queen asked who she was and asked about the gardeners to which she refused to respond and the queen threatened to behead her
  • the queen called to behead the gardeners but alice saved them
  • the queen asked alice to join her for croquet
  • the white rabbit told her that the duchess was to be executed
  • the game of croquet was played with live animals and everyone was fighting for turns so the queen kept calling for people to be beheaded
  • she found the Cheshire cat and talked to it
  • the king told the queen to execute the cat for not kissing his hand
  • they were all arguing because the cat didn't have a body to behead but the king wanted the executioner to do it anyway
  • alice said that the duchess should settle it
  • they all came to the court with the duchess to do a trial
  • the king was the judge and animals were the jurors
  • the hatter came in for a testimony
  • alice started to grow back to her original size during the testimony
  • the hatter could not give the testimony because he was too nervous so the king threatened to execute him
  • they let him go and he was far out of sight before he could be executed
  • the cook came in and the king asked her what was in tarts and she said pepper so he dismissed her
  • alice was called as the next witness and she was still growing
